Thursday, May 13, 2010

Asian music-biz veteran Ruuben van den Heuvel has rejoined Sony Music Asia as senior VP, commercial development.

Van den Heuvel will be based in Hong Kong and report to Sony Music Entertainment Asia President Daniel DiCicco, who is also based in Hong Kong.

From 2004 until 2008 van den Heuvel was SVP, digital and new business development, at Sony BMG Music Entertainment Asia. Most recently he was Nokia’s head of music for the Asia Pacific region, where he launched "Comes With Music" and other music services in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Van den Heuvel has also worked with STAR Television Asia as VP, music and artist relations, ESPN STAR Sports (Asia), Austereo MCM Europe, PolyGram, Sony Music and CBS Records Australia.

“In his new role, Ruuben will spearhead Sony Music's expansion into new business areas, developing and implementing innovative revenue-producing strategies for our artists and company,” said DiCicco in a statement. “With a diverse background in the digital, technical, broadcast, event, music and entertainment industries, strong business development credentials, creative vision and an incredible passion for music, Ruuben is uniquely qualified to help transform our company in this time of great change and opportunity.”

"It's an incredible feeling to come home to Sony Music again,” said van den Heuvel in a statement. “The opportunity to work in the ARO, alongside Daniel and the team here, is something that I have quite frankly longed for since the day I left.  With Asia leading the world in population, technology and entertainment -- and Sony Music having the vision to lead through excellence while pioneering a new way forward for the music industry -- I couldn't be happier than to be part of this new team.”
