Universal names four Asian regional digital execs

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Four digital-music heads in Asia are better than one, according to Universal Music South East Asia, which today named four regional executives to handle digital and business development in their respective territories.

They are:

  • Loo Yew Ming, ASEAN region. Loo, who was previously overall (excluding China) UMSEA director of digital, will be based in Kuala Lumpur, from where he will oversee UMSEA’s digital business in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
  • Andrew Chan, greater China. Chan, previously CEO of Golden Dynamic, the main tech-services provider for Universal Music in Southeast Asia, will be based in Beijing and will cover Hong Kong, Mainland China and Taiwan.
  • Ashish Joshi, greater India. Joshi, previously general manager of Hungama Mobile, the world’s largest aggregator, publisher and distributor of South Asian entertainment content, will be based in Mumbai and will be responsible for Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as well as promoting Universal's Indian repertoire globally.
  • Jason Roh, Korea. Roh, who will be based in Seoul, was previously an executive at a subsidiary of local carrier SK Telecom.

The appointments take effect immediately.

The four regional heads will report to Kuala Lumpur-based UMSEA VP of Digital Sandy Monteiro “structurally” and to their territorial heads “operationally.”

“With our four new digital heads, we’re excited about even further growth expected for new music services, about strategic partnerships, innovative antipiracy initiatives, and developing more commercial relationships with a variety of business partners across the region,” said Monteiro in a statement.

Commented Rob Wells, SVP of digital, Universal Music Group International: “The strengthening of the core digital structure in Southeast Asia signifies the importance of this business in this fast-moving, highly advanced region. Andrew, Ashish, Jason and Yew Ming are all extremely talented and highly charged individuals and I look forward to seeing them achieve great things.”
